Knodell: DOC is Well-Run The newest member of Missouri's Probation and Parole Board says drug abuse is the biggest issue he hears about when he conducts parole hearings across the state. Joseph Knodell of Poplar Bluff was appointed to the Board by Gov. Matt Blunt in December. "Too many of our offenders are involved or have been involved in the drug culture," Knodell told the Horizon. "Many of the offenders have told me that drugs have ruined their lives. It's not only meth. Sometimes it's cocaine or marijuana and sometimes it's alcohol." Knodell praised the professionalism of Probation and Parole staff. "The Department of Corrections is a well-run organization," Knodell said. "I'm very impressed with (Board Chairman) Steve Long. Steve keeps our morale high and he's doing a great job. Our staff is dedicated to public safety." Knodell is a retired city planner for Poplar Bluff. He previously served as a consultant for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Knodell also served as superintendent for Twin Rivers R-10 Schools and East Carter R-2 Schools. He earned his bachelor's degree in history from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and his master's in elementary school supervision and specialist degree in school administration from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. Knodell's term ends on August 28, 2012. |
