Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


Nov. 23-29, 2020

Potosi Correctional Center: On Nov. 23, 2020 at approximately 3:11 p.m., a staff member was assaulted by an offender. The offender hit the staff member in the facial area with a mop handle. Staff gained control of the offender. The staff member did seek outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Western Missouri Correctional Center: On Nov. 25, 2020 at approximately 8:41 a.m., an officer was assaulted by an offender. The offender hit the officer in the facial area multiple times with a broom handle. Staff gained control of the offender. The officer did seek outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception Diagnostic & Correctional Center: On Nov. 26, 2020 at approximately 7:50 p.m., an officer was assaulted by an offender. The offender struck the officer in the head and face multiple times with a stick of rebar. Staff gained control of the offender. The officer did seek outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

South Central Correctional Center: On Nov. 27, 2020, an officer was assaulted by an offender. The offender threw an unknown substance on the officer, striking his right arm. The officer did not seek outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Western Missouri Correctional Center: On Nov. 28, 2020 at approximately 1:05 a.m., an officer was assaulted by an offender. The offender punched the officer in the left side of his face. The officer did not seek outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
